Colosseum
Where as some European cities are broken down into old town vs new town, Rome is all wrapped up in one. Gelato places, Ferrari dealerships, and the Colosseum all occupying the same city. With every twist in the road you never knew if you’d run across a great restaurant, a government building, a park, an office building, a university, or the Vatican. Sensational.

What is today an outdoor enthusiasts’ paradise was once the secondary seat of the Nazi government behind only Berlin and a huge symbol of their power. Walking around town through the quaint streets filled with Bavarian architecture and flowers, with the Alps rising all around us, forests, glacier fed lakes, rivers, and waterfalls, and the indomitable Watzmann Mountain everpresent, it was easy to feel right at home. It didn’t hurt that half the people around town had big backpacks and carried trekking poles. Still, it was hard to shake the thoughts of this place being the symbolic heart of Nazi power.
